Monday 6th May 2013 - What small DFW things will you do today?

When we start out on the DFW trail we do loads of "big stuff" that makes quite a difference to our situation. These include having our lightbulb moment, cutting up the credit cards and cancelling Sky and the gym.
But once we have done the bigger stuff, we often feel that we are not making the same amount of progress, when in fact the small steps are helping us form good financial habits and helping us get closer everyday to staying in control and becoming debt free, or staying debt free. :T
Examples could be hanging washing out instead of using the tumble dryer or leaving your purse/wallet at home to avoid the risk of spending. :money:
So be proud of those small steps, they really are important.
Morning peeps,
Have been awake since about 4:30am but have used the time productively – showered, hung washing out, put anther load in the machine then started studying…all before 6am !
I’m off to Ikea in Southampton today….we’ve got to buy a couple of bits of kids furniture (for my nieces) and their prices are so good it’s worth the 30 minutes in the car !
Hope everyone is well and able to enjoy the sunshine – it was lovely this morning to hear the birds singing and have a lovely bright morning !
So, today’s plan….
• Breakfast and lunch or dinner from stores - mum wants to go out for dinner (or it may be lunch……it will only be Harvester so nice and cheap)
• Stick to list at Ikea – it is so easy to overspend there
• Printed off the voucher for a free beach chair, but they are out of stock – have left my mobile number for them to text me when they are back in stock
• Read papers online
• Checked bank – a savings SO has gone out
• Need to update my signature with new savings account total
• Need to do some college revision
• Checked birthday and postcode lottery
• Study, study, study
• Washing on low temp, short wash and using less washing powder than recommended and hung out to dry
I think that is it for me
Take care all

Hi everyone :hello:
Thanks for the kick off Candy
Today I'm:
Using LiveChat rather than calling gas supplier - as frustrating as it is!
Doing our own garden rather than paying someone
Calling round for carpet fitting quotes
Filling in spending diary - £45 for w/e away + £22.80 travel
Getting some groceries in for start of working week tomorrow
That's about it really!0 -

Afternoon,
Thanks for starting the thread Candy.
It's taken me ages to get going today, not helped by the lousy weather and a night on the sofa (OH was snoring.) Today I will:- Do Nectar AdPoints. 93% of the way to a £5 Sainsbury's voucher. Done
- Do OnePoll. 55% off the way to a £40 payout. Done
- Leave the heating off as long as possible. Done
- Apply for jobs.
- Choose new library books online. Done
- Homemade burgers for lunch. Done
- Examined how much food we have in the pantry. Quite a lot but need to be careful with supplies as we have no idea when we'll next have money in our account. We only spent £2 on food this week.
- Sign up for Nectar Surveys even though they don't pay well. I'll give it a shot. (Link) Done
- Free Royal Mail parcels' measure. (Link)
- Free Kindle book "The Village Idiot" (Link)
- Free 25 Tesco Clubcard points and a chance to win a Tesco voucher. You need to complete a 5 min survey about your last Tesco visit. You need a Tesco receipt to proceed. (Link)
- 10 Free Credits for Scotland's People (Link)

Afternoon peeps!
I've just sat down with a cuppa
Got up with OH at 7.30 (he gets fidgety on days off as he's normally been to the gym and is home by 7.30!) and have just kinda continued. Mine's more like a to do/have done list today:
I have:
- Checked bank, no maintenence from ex (getting bored of writing this now...)
- Finished cleaning oven, took me *quite* a few hours yesterday, even with oven pride, it now looks AMAZING and ready for me to give DM when I move. I was considering paying £60 to have it done proffessionally...
- Nipped to Mr T's for emergency BBQ supplies, spent a fortune!
- iMessage (free text) invites to BBQ to various, and shouted over the fence to next door!
- Next door then wheeled his gas BBQ over for us to use later, I can put the disposable one away for next time
- I also strimmed the weeds down in the back garden and did in front of my front garden wall, just because we live out of town people think it doesn't matter if their dog fouls *anywhere*. Dumbasses.
- Washed bedding and dried on the line
- "Washed" towels with no detergent as they were only used to mop up leaking tap water and hung on line
- Keeping DD and skipping netball tonight, so I can have a little drinkie-poos and saves me fuel
Hope everyone is enjoying their weekend too much to post! See you all back on the wagon tomorrow.
JxxxNothing to report as yet...give me a minute...!0 -
Hi everyone,
Been out & about over the weekend so didn't get around to posting, but will soon be back to my usual routines tomorrow when Mr f goes back to work after his week off.
Useful non-spending activity today so far:
*Big gardening session this morning. Shallots planted out, peas support built from broken fireguard & peas planted, runner beans sown in rolled up newspaper tubes, compost bin opened so we can use home-made compost as much as possible rather than buying it in.
*Washing done overnight on Economy 7, 30 deg & my now habitually stingy eggcupful of powder.
*Everything line-drying in the lovely sunshine.
*Mr f roasting big piece of pork tonight & I'm already checking out how many meals I reckon I can get out of it!
*Made bird-scarers from old CDs & a bundle of old string that was given to me.
*Went through the fridge & ate up slightly out of date hummous & nearly out of date chicken for lunch.
*Shared bathwater! (Am not happy about the amount of debit we're carrying forward from our last energy bill, because of the prolonged winter weather - £195 debit - so I am looking for every opportunity to use absolutely as little as possible over the summer.
*Did a couple of surveys.
That's it for me. I've not really impressed myself with Money-saving activity over this last week & I need to update a couple of budgets so that they don't get out of our control, but as I said, back to my routines tomorrow......looks like it'll be a bit of a rubber pork day, lol, so I'm sure I shall be able to get a grip & straighten my halo - (hope so anyway!!)
Hope everyone is OK & seeing at least some sunshine today.
Cheers,
