You can top up by using the grey one also, its just a back up one really incase the other unit fails.0

Yes, they both do the same job. The grey one is fixed in place and the white one normally has a bit of loose cable incase the grey one is in an inaccessible place; just makes it easier to top up if in an awkward position.0

Had a meter in a house changed to Keypad and the guy put the two in. I asked the guy installing why the two units and he said usually depending on where the Outside box is, what people normally do is drill a little hole through the wall into the inside of the house and install the white one inside so they don't have to go outside and open the big box outside to top up the Electricity... makes sense I suppose!!0

just on the subject of keypads, i have a standard meter and now with Budget Energy, is there any chance of getting a keypad installed?
Or would i have to change back to PowerNI?
Too much hassle if thats the case...0 -

Yes, you can change over to a keypad. I did this recently with Airtricity - I was on bill pay with Airtricity, phoned them up, told them I wanted a keypad, was told it would take a month, waited 4 months, NIE supply guy came and changed meter over, gave me Airtricity top-up card, still with Airtricity.0 -
NIE (who own the lines and household meter system) and Power NI are two different companies thus it doesn't matter who your energy provider is. As the other poster said it can take a while for the meter to be fitted but it's great. Much easier to manage payments and you can buy online, phone or at a shop with Budget so no hassle in purchasing credit.0

Are the keypads a good job? Does it work out much cheaper?0

We're with Power NI (keypad). 3 bedroom semi. 2 adults and 3 teenage girls. We'd use approx £50 a month.Wealth is what you're left with when all your money runs out0
