Non-existing debt showing on credit report

Hi all, hope someone can help.
I just checked my credit report online. Back in 2005, I a student bank account with Barclays which had an overdraft. I defaulted on paying the overdraft back in 2008 and the debt got passed onto a third party agency (Debt Managers), which I finished paying in full in 2009.
However, my credit file says I'm still defaulted with Barclays. I've tried to contact Barclays, but I don't remember what my account number is so they can trace my account.
Does anyone know the best course of action to take please?

  • The default will stay on your credit report for 6 years whether it's settled or not.

Should come off the credit report in 2014 - but should already be marked as paid in full.
You might as well ask the Wizard of Oz to give you a big number as pay a Credit Referencing Agency for a so-called 'credit-score'

The above two posts are correct, but there should not be a default from Barclays as well as one from Debt Managers. If there are two defaults, you need to get one of them removed.

I think Experian does this a little differently to everyone else though, and you might be able to see two defaults but only one will be visible to lenders that search your report.

Thank you so much for your replies.
I guess I might as well wait until next year for it to drop off, thankfully only the default from Barclays is showing.
    Thanks again :)

If the debt is sold to a firm that doesn't share data then the original default stays on your report. But as you say, it will disappear next year :)
