Vinyl Records Collection - Auctions?

Does anybody have any ideas where I can sell my beloved vinyl collection to help reduce my debts?
I have LOADS of 80's/90's indie stuff (John Peel sessions Joy Division/ Smiths etc., ) and wondered if there are any vinyl auctions/specialist buyers out there.
I've chatted to a local collectables dealer who said he would be very interested, but I'd hate to think he'll give me 50p for each of them when I could be sitting on a little goldmine!
Any suggestions would be gratefully investigated.
Cheers
Lisa

oooooh, fab stuff - I love the Smiths/Joy Division etc Any New Wave stuff??
I would suggest ebaying them individually to get the best money for them, although Ithink there is a book you can buy with vinyl values in- any of large value could be listed separately and then the rest done as job lots.
(And let me know the item numbers please, i'd probably want to bid for a few!)

Yep, eBay's probably the best place. If you don't want to buy a book for values (and book value doesn't necessarily equal what they'd sell for, depends how much someone wants it!), you can search completed items on eBay or use http://www.popsike.com to see previous prices.Debt@16.12.09 £10,362.38, now debt free as of 29.02.2012."I cannot make my days longer so I strive to make them better."0

Thanks for the info.
I had a nosey on Ebay the other day and there was very little activity so I then went onto popsike and noticed my Smiths 12" Sheila take a bow regular (i.e. not coloured plastic) was listed at mid 30 quid!!!!!! Nearly fell over when I think I've got 2 boxes of stuff and I have kept it all in those plastic covers which they used to sell in HMV - aahh, those were the days - £3 pocket money off my dad and I used to save it all for vinyl!!!
How does popsike work? - I couldn't see how, just thought maybe I was having a blonde moment - I didn't notice a link to sign up. Have you done any of your stuff or know anybody who has, just to point me in the obvious direction?
Is the "book" you refer to available specially, say at WHSmith?Decluttering junk and debt in 2016

Popsike is just a search engine for previous eBay auctions, so you can see what sort of prices the things you've got have reached - it means you can search back further than if you just look on eBay which only gives you completed items for 30 (or is it 60?) days - think Popsike goes back a few years. Of course there are no guarantees that by listing on eBay you'll get the same price again, it all depends who's looking/ buying when you list your stuff - you can of course always put a reserve on if you're not prepared to sell something for below a certain price, but they do tend to attract more attention with a lower starting bid, and often prices shoot up in the last few minutes as people wait to bid or use sniping programmes to get in as close to the end as possible. I'd definitely say it's worth the effort listing them on eBay rather than taking to a dealer.
The book that's normally used is the Record Collector guide.. http://www.amazon.co.uk/Record-Price-Guide-Collector-Magazine/dp/0953260151 - personally I'd only buy one if you were going to collect/ sell regularly, you might be able to get it from a library if you want a look to give an idea of prices.. but at the end of the day, they're all worth whatever someone wants to pay for them!Debt@16.12.09 £10,362.38, now debt free as of 29.02.2012."I cannot make my days longer so I strive to make them better."0 -
Cheers Red Squirrel
Gonna pop into town and see if the library can dig a copy out for me - only costs 70p to order a book (very DSW!) and I'll take it from there.
Keren - if I go ahead with Ebay I'll PM you so you can see what I'm listing.
Even if I only make a few quid it's better than them sitting up in the attic. Also asked OH to get them out of the attic and they weigh a ton so don't think he'd be too impressed if I ask him to lug them back up there again!!!Decluttering junk and debt in 2016
