Guaranteed Bank Accounts?

with Co op becoming less co operative (hollow laugh) about Basic accounts for BRs or people heading for BR, and if you owe Barclays as one of your creditors as DH does your a bit stuck? i have heard about something called Guaranteed bank accounts (?Cashcard) which charge a monthly fee and then provide a similar service, but without being a bank? but you can get your salary paid to them? are these a good idea as a last resort if Co op and Barclays not an option?

Cannot answer you question directly..however.....Barclays will allow basic accounts even if they are creditors in BR.[according to many on this forum]

They do not offset from these accounts.
No, I don't think all other drivers are idiots......but some are determined to change my mind.......

I went br with Barclays as a creditor. They have since allowed me a basic account and savings account - internet access is available post AD. Service to date has been professional, curteous - no differnet to previous experience with them. I would suggest you give them a try first before going to a 'bank' that then charges you for the pleasure, money will be tight so every penny needs to be held onto. All the best.

    Also cashplus is an option.

I used Cashplus for my business - i'm not BR yet but my credit rating is rubbish so no chance of a 'normal' business account - which would get closed at BR anyway :(

So far i've found it OK, it's nowhere near as good as a regular bank account, and you can't pay in cheques, but on the plus side there is online access for direct debits etc. Customer service is a bit rubbish, you have to pay to call them.

But better than no account at all.

Barclays are my main creditor (including about £75k mortgage shortfall) so i'd be amazed if they let me open a basic account. I've opened one with Co-op but am getting nervous that they are tightening up on BR.

..Barclays were a significant creditor of mine and I opened an account with them no probs, still with them in fact.
