What's your signature dish?

Planning a BBQ this weekend (weather dependent!) and looking for inspiration. I'm planning on have some cocktails and canapes when people arrive and main BBQ after an hour or so. I'm after some new recipes to try. I have been told I have to make potato salad - my signature dish! (New potatoes with bacon, slow cooked onions, cucumber with a sour cream and chive dressing).

potato wedges - potatoes sliced into the wedge shape and baked in the oven for 25-30 mins. Serve with garlic mayo/salsa/cheese dip.

I honestly don't think I have one signature dish. I think if you asked my friends their answers would vary from....'THAT pumpkin soup.....' (That was very popular when I was a student and I used to get roped in to make it a lot), stuffed aubergines ( I also stuff marrow and peppers and tomatoes a lot.) or something with chestnuts.

For bbqs, I love kebabs....veggy ones, lamb ones, chicken ones. And chicken well marinated and rubbed. Lots of grilled veg ( if not doing kebabs). And lots of salads. (Today I made salads I hope will serve the weekend ..remolade, and a fennel and orange salad. I love Waldorf salad too....but any interesting s
Mixture of sharp, fresh and a bit sweet is great)

Grilled pineapple with a chocolate sauce ( I think there is a nigella recipe for that). And delicious fresh fruit salads.
  • banana's and bacon...cut ripe banana's into 3 or 4 chunks, wrap a slice of streaky bacon-or half a slice depending on size around each piece. grill on bbq until bacon is crispy--its delish! I use one of those things intended for bbq-ing sausages--you can keep turning them in one go...even folk who dont like bananas love this.....will be doing some this weekend...
I might be crazy but I'm not stupid....

What we call in the family 'Mike's chops' because first 'invented' by husband's Uncle Mike.

Pour soy sauce over pork chops or steaks, both sides. Sprinkle garlic and black pepper over too and leave to marinade. Dark soy sauce is better for the depth of flavour and garlic granules give a nice texture, but you can use whatever you have in. The longer you leave to marinade the better it is, but if short of time you can do shortly before cooking.

BBQ (or grill, bake, or george foreman if not bbq weather).

The other one is a diff variant of potato salad. Cook some new potatoes. In the bottom of a pyrex dish add sliced onions and gherkins. Add the potatoes when cooked into the dish. The warmth of the potatoes slightly 'cooks' the onions and gherkin. When cool mix with mayo.

Spiced onions, like the ones you get in Indian restaurants.
Not an exact recipe but you can make as much or as little as you like.
Chop up onions into small pieces.
Add tomato sauce, couple of dashes of lemon juice, spoonful of mint sauce and some sweet chilli sauce.
Add more of eat ingredient to suit your tastes.

These are great at a bbq

    Here's the OH's signature dish - 'Lasagne'.

Get a beef and tomato pot noodle, pour it into a lasagne dish in layers between Kraft cheese slices. Top with crisps.

    Thankfully, I do the cooking.

  • Not sure I have one as such. I often get asked for lemon meringue pie or strawberry chiffon pie. Oh, and there's tomato, red onion, mozzarella and basil layered salad (drizzle with a little good oil), or for canapes, devils on horseback (prunes wrapped in bacon and baked), smoked salmon and cream cheese blinis, or red onion, sweet pepper and goats cheese layered over puff pastry, cooked and then cut into wedges or little squares.

    Good luck with the weather!

It would probably be out of 3 for me:

    Chicken Curry
    Thai Green Curry
    Chilli

I've been told by pretty much everyone whos tried all 3 that it's the best version of that dish they've ever had. Always a nice thing to hear. I love cooking though and try and make a variety of dishes.

Chicken tikka vol au vents. Since I made them for my daughters birthday party a few years ago, each time there's a family do I'm asked to make them. Wouldn't be so bad but I'm wheat intolerant so I can't even eat them :rotfl:
