Help and Advice please

First of all, hello I am new to the forum.

I am seeking advice on settling some debt. This isn't a case of me saying "a friend is in debt" when it is really me... I am a third person in the whole thing trying to help out.

The debts are as follows -

Barclays loan - £1600
Barclays credit card - £3600
Financial claims company - £1400

We have spoken to Barclays regarding the loan and credit card, and they have agreed on the phone to settle the debt at £800 for the loan, and £1800 on the credit card, which I can afford to pay on the debtors behalf.

We are yet to speak to the claims company, who are owed money after PPI was claimed back from the loan.

But my main concern is with the settlements agreed with Barclays for the loan and card.

We have paperwork coming out to us regarding the settlements. Basically I want to make sure this doesn't come back and bite us in the future. I want this debt resolved for my friend so that we can look forward to a brighter future.

So, I am just wondering what I need in writing exactly, and how to get what I want on paper? We've been told that the settlement is "full and final" on the phone but I don't think these creditors can be trusted personally.

I was thinking of maybe recording a phone call? Would this stand up for evidence if this comes back to haunt us in the future? If I could get them to say the words full and final for the agreed amount on a certain date, with their name and ID etc.

I know it all sounds a bit James Bond but I am trying to do as much as possible to get this resovled!!!
