I have just received a statement saying that as at 6 April 2012 I have 25 years qualifying years and I reach pension credit age on
6 March 2014 when I will be 62.If i stop looking for work and apply for pension credit will I be given contributions or do I need to be looking for work to get NI cons?

Pension credit, despite the name, does not give you credits towards your state pension. You can either work, pay voluntary contributions or register as self employed and pay contributions that way

If it's a female, she's answered, which is how i've understood the discussion.

From the Citizens Advice adviceguide website
If you are a man, you will get NI credits if:
    • you're aged under 65, and
    • you've reached or are over the state pension age of a woman with the same date of birth as you, and
    • you're not paying contributions on earnings because, for example, you have taken early retirement.
So yes OP you will get class 1 national insurance credits towards your state pension from female SPA (6th March 2014 as pension credit age is by definition female SPA) to age 65, if you are not getting them through working, and that is regardless of whether you are looking for work or not.

Also mentioned on the HMRC website here although more vaguely.
    I came, I saw, I melted
