Cleaning the brass on an oil lamp

can anyone please tell me how I can clean the brass on my oil lamp. I don't keep Brasso or anything like that, I have a thought somewhere in the back of my mind that tomato sauce can be used, is this so? don't want to use it if it will spoil the brass, or is there anything else non-chemical that will do the job?
hope some of you old stylers out there can help, thanks in anticipation, my little lamp is sat on the windowsill looking very sorry for itself.

You can use ketchup, or vinegar and salt, or lemon juice and salt; but they tend to leave a dull finish. Best get duraglit or brasso for a nice shine.0

Use salt and vinegar (or the other suggestions above) with a piece of aluminium foil to polish and see if that is shiny enough. But a banker, engaged at enormous expense,Had the whole of their cash in his care.
