Also ask your child's teacher if they have any recommendations. I bought second hand from a local shop, and when we no longer needed it they were happy to buy it back. Or you may be able to hire, which is worth considering if you don't think the violin bug will last long.

And good luck! Hopefully your prodigy's efforts will sound less like a strangled cat than ours ...

My child does violin at school and is part of a scheme where she rents the appropriate size for her now and as she grows she can just swap violins for a bigger size. If she ever wants to own her own she will get a credit against the purchase price of the rent paid.

I got my daughter's from ebay new for £38 it was fine- through she did tell me it squeaked in her lesson
