Martini Asti - needed cheap - please help

Options
Dear all, I am getting married very soon and need enough Martini Asti for 130 glasses. Can anyone find bottles cheaper than 5.47 a bottle. Your help would be very much appreciated (I'M not keen on the cheaper versions of Asti).

Thanks Again :j

What about Lidl or Aldi. They do brand names as well as their own.

Ask the supermarkets about bulk buying. I heard someone negogiating with Tesco about buying wine in large quantities. Might work.
They do 5% on 6 bottles or more all the time.

You might get a good deal at a smaller off licence.

You say you need asti for 130 glasses one way to make it cheaper is to say it is Buck Fizz most people will not be able to tell the difference (speaking as someone that worked for a caterer) add fresh orange juice. or depending on when you are getting married add sliced strawberries to each glass of Asti and you will find it will go a long way. Something about displacement theories according to my OH. It fills the glass up big style and looks really pretty.!!!

    Good luck and congrats.

You say that you are not keen on the cheaper versions of Asti, but have you tried Cava (its the Spanish version of champagne - made in the same way but because its from Spain and not from the Champagne region of France, it is not allowed to be sold under the name of "Champagne")?

I would really recommend Asda's version of Cava - we have a large New Year's party every year and usually just pour large trays full of glasses of this for midnight and get compliments every year (people can't believe that it is not an expensive champagne!:p). I think its usually £3.something a bottle, but Asda regularly have 3 for £10 or £18 for 6, or some other kind of offer (like 5% off if you buy 6 bottles, etc).

Sainsbury's version is also very good - we served this at our wedding 11 years ago and everybody loved it. Because of the cheaper price, we were able to have "plenty" of it, so for those people who took larger mouthfuls during the toasts:rolleyes:, the waiting staff were able to top up the glasses...:rotfl:

I know it sounds strange, but we were warned when getting married that people very rarely remember the "quality" of the wine/champagne served, but never forget if it was "rationed" or ran out. That's not to say that we served cheap rubbish, but as we had outside caterers and provided our own wine, we bought cases of wine on special offer and had plenty of it. To be honest, the atmosphere of the day meant that we didn't need to have expensive wine (I think both our red and white wines came in at under £4 a bottle, after special offers and case discounts:D) but our friends still remember that there was plenty of it (we placed bottles down the table and had our ushers on "replacement duty" - as one bottle emptied, another bottle replaced it...). Having said this, we got married when we were very young so were catering for a guest list which included a large amount of students/people in their 20s, who "appreciated" an unlimited alcohol supply...

Its true though - the following year, we went to a friend's wedding where no drinks were provided (which is fine, although it would have been useful to know this before we sat down - once the waiting staff started serving the food, it was impossible to get anything to drink and we couldn't leave the table to get to the bar, even to buy some water...so ended up eating a three course meal with nothing to drink at all:o). Similarly, when a friend married back in 2004, she paid a ridiculous amount for a "food package" and a "drinks package" (the drinks package alone for each person was about £20) which allowed each guest a glass of champagne on arrival, plus a glass of a set wine with each course of food - sadly, it had no flexibility for people who didn't want a certain type of drink with the appropriate food course, and made no allowance for slow food service - I was a bridesmaid, so got my food first, but Mr P and my parents were on a table who got their food about 20-25 minutes after the top table, and they reported that most people on their table had already finished their allotted small glass of wine before the food arrived - but there was no additional wine (or water) available - the bride and groom had ordered a package and once that had been served, there was nothing else available, full stop.

Sorry - will get off my soapbox now! I hope you find what you are looking for and have a wonderful wedding day!! :T

someone has posted on another thread that the thresher wine group are doing 30% off sparkling wines and champagne until a specific date.this is on the discount vouchers thread if you want to get more details.hope this helps
  • If it is easier I can post it here also

    http://www.threshergroup.com/the_voucher.aspx?icid=L029-10421180-144A

Not 100% if they sell Martini Asti I guess it depends on the store closest to you. But I do know they sell a Asti which is very popular I believe it is 4.99 or 5.99 before the 30% discount with the above voucher.

    Hope it helps xx

    Sweet or dry?

If dry, then Prosecco is an excellent alternative
