Jacobs Certificated Bailiffs

I owed 297.50 to the council, and they forwarded me on to Jacobs bailiffs, i arranged to pay £25 a week. Which would mean 11 payments of £25 and 1 payment of £17.50.

I thought it would be easier for me if i paid the £17.50 first so i wouldnt get muddled up with the payments.

Today, i got a letter saying..
You havent maintained your arrangement to pay £25 every 7 days

This arrangement is therefore cancelled and WILL NOT be re-instated.

If FULL payment is not received within for days a bailiff will attend your property for the purpose of collecting full payment or removing goods for sale at public auction, which will incur additional costs to you.

i was just wondering where i stand with this as i didnt know i had to pay the £17.50 last, they didnt tell me this. I phoned them today and they just werent interested.

Im 24 and never had anything like this before, live on my own and only earn 180 a week, i get no benefits whatsoever.

What would the bailiff would do? Ive got no possessions of value in my house, and dont drive. They cant take animals can they? Any help please?

Just a quick reply to put your mind at rest, no they cannot take animals. Others (look for Hallowitch) will be here with more detailed advice regarding bailiffs, but do not let them in the house whatever they say, keep windows and doors closed, and they will eventually have to go away.

So if i ignore them and just keep paying the £25, once ive paid the £275 then there is nothing they can do right?

Good, glad they cant take my dog! Thank you :)

I would suggest that you write to them explaining the error you made, and request that they reinstate the plan and send them the next £25 if you can. Don't ignore it, if they have advised you that the plan is cancelled you do need it reinstated. Do it in writing though, not by phone.

If you write to explain the situation they'd have to be pretty heartless to not re-instate the agreement.

Why dont you write to them and enclose a cheque for £7.50 to show you were more than willing to pay the £25 anyway.

Itried phoning them before i posted the thread, they said they wont reinstate as it was my own fault! So doubt a letter will be any better, as all the women there on the phones dont seem to have any sympathy. i offered to pay the extra £7.50 but they said no, its too late, im just gonna keep paying the £25 and see what happens i think

There's always a chance a letter will be opened and read by somebody different, rather than the unsympathetic phone monkeys who are often trained to intimidate debtors.

If you ring up, you speak to bullies. If you write, bullies read your letter. The difference is that bullies have a harder time writing a letter without leaving evidence that they are bullies.

Do not be deterred from keeping to the arrangement. Send the money as you would have done anyway.
You might as well ask the Wizard of Oz to give you a big number as pay a Credit Referencing Agency for a so-called 'credit-score'

or even better write to the council and copy them into it via email.
Don't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.
