Depends. Have you asked them?I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). The comments I make are just my opinion and are for discussion purposes only. They are not financial advice and you should not treat them as such. If you feel an area discussed may be relevant to you, then please seek advice from an Independent Financial Adviser local to you.0 -
Sorry to hear about your illness.
The pension changed in 1987 but from what you've posted you'd have been a member of the A/B scheme that existed before the change. Without being certain there seems more than a reasonable chance that you may be able to get your pension paid early.
Can I take my benefits early?
If you leave the company, you can apply for your
benefits before you reach 60 if:
• you are ill to such an extent that the Trustee
is satisfied that you would have been
ill health retired had you still worked for the
company. In this situation, ill health retired
means retired because the company,
or an associated employer, is satisfied that
you are likely to be permanently unable to
give regular and efficient service on the
duties of your post because of physical or
mental disablement.

As dunstonh says you need to contact the scheme - contacts are at the end of the brochure posted above. Don't know if the PO Unions [if you were a member] do it but I know some unions/staff assns will offer former members advice and assistance if there is an issue which concerns things like pensions and other entitlements from the time you were a member.
BoL - hope it does work out for you.0
