This year's compost?

I've been searching for reviews on composts suitable for pots, hanging baskets & containers, and it seems that composts vary greatly from year to year.

So what multi-purpose or container composts have people bought this year that they recommend?

TIA for any suggestions.

I've bought homebase multi-purpose compost plus which was ok, bit woody but the less peat companies add the more woody it seems to be.

Asda's own brand multi-purpose which as usual is very fine and my plants seem to be growing fine in it. Of course this has got quite a high peat content.

New Horizon compost is 180L for £12 (3 bags) or 150L for £10 (3 bags), depending on the type (general or veg). It seems to do okay in Which trials, and I've used it for a number of years, mainly because it is peat free and organic. Most garden centres down south have it, no idea about elsewhere.

Thank you for your suggestions - I think I'll get a bag of each (if I can) and see which gives the best results.

That's answered my question on another thread, thanks.

60ltr bags are now obsolete. they are now 56ltrs. The cost Price has actually gone up to us too (as a retailer)

Hilliers have a beautiful mixed mpc with added John Innes - 3 big bags (60 litres I think) for £12.
That's of course if you are anywhere near a Hilliers garden centre!

I'd buy a lottery ticket if I were you. Yours obviously came without the pieces of plastic, twigs and so on.

My two 125 litre bales have been just about acceptable.but worse than last year's. I have seen similar reports on dedicated gardening forums, too.

Could be worse, though. The emergency sack of Bowers I bought could have been sold as a fungus growing kit.
