Cancellation charge - not my fault

I'll try keep this short .... Yesterday we ordered some tickets online. The company went to the bank details and first took out £2 then tried to take out the rest of the money. I'm told (by my bank) this is common practice. The company is doing it to verify the card. However to my bank (although they know this is a common practice!!) this looks like a fraudulent transaction, so they stopped the second transaction.
This morning we check emails and saw a cancellation email from the company so tried to reorder. Only then did the bank automated service called to check on the transactions.
After some chasing the purchase has now, hopefully gone through, but we have been charged £20 by the company for the cancellation. The cancellation is not my fault. Money was always there.
I have been caught up being out of pocket due to the conflicted procedures of both the bank and the company. Neither wants to give me the money back. The best I got was a sorry from the bank!!!
What do I do next to get my money back and who is my claim with.
