Hi Izzie Wizzie, have a look through quidco and Pigsback when you check out new deals for contact lenses.
Also I agree with cancelling the life insurance.
If you are on monthly disposables for lenses, do you change them every month, or can you sometimes make them last an extra week or so. I only ask as my mum has stockpiled a load of lenses and i have now talked her into cancelling and using up what she has, then looking for a better deal.
Good luck.
Hi
I wear dailies, the £13 is for 6 months worth of lenses that I stretch out to last me 12 months as I only wear them a couple of times a week, I wear my specs the rest of the time. I've had a look around tesco, asda etc but haven't been able to beat this price yet - what benefits would I get with quidco/pigsback?
Cheers

Hi MonkeyMonkey - I managed to swap my cards to low lob interest rates (thank heavens!! - did have a MBNA card with a whopping 17.9% interest  ).
I've been quite disciplined myself and have cut up the older higher rate cards and closed them down so I'm not tempted to spend on them again. However, I just can't seem to give up the barclaycard! Maybe I'll have to just stick it in the freezer

Ha ha, I know how you feel. You've done better than me though, I still have all my cards sitting in my purse. I have so far been successful in resisting the temptation to spend on them, it hasn't even crossed my mind for ages. But I wonder if I should take them out and cut them up just in case?!
I want to try and get them all onto lower rates, or swap to lower rate cards, but I feel a bit nervous to apply in case I get turned down and it makes my credit rating look worse?much work to be done - new sig coming soon...0 -

Have you missed any payments on any of them? If not then maybe you could call them, say you're looking to shift the balance and close the card, then ask them what special deals they could give you to keep you as a customer? If you don't ask you don't know!
And well done for being so disciplined as to not use your cards in your purse - the temptation would be way to much for me!!Highest Debt - £21k+ Current debt - £3,926.30 :TDFW Nerd # 522 - proud to be dealing with my debts

Hi Izzie
You said that you spend £13 on contact lenses every six months, yet you've put £13 in your monthly outgoings as "opticians". So.... you can reduce this to £2 a month, and you've got another £11 a month to throw at your debts! :j£27k (excluding interest) paid off in 29 months

Hi Guys, I am also new to the board although I have been hovering around the site for a while.
My issue is the large figure you can see in my signature and the fact that my husband does not find this serious as he says that we can afford to pay for it each month.
I'm not doubting that we can't afford it, however even with snowballing it will take until 2018 till it is cleared and I will be 36. I really want to enjoy my family whilst they are young and in July I am expecting baby 2, so when the childcare costs add up i don't think that we would be scraping the barrel to find the money to cover the debts every month.
Sorry rant over. Nice to meet you all. L xxx0 -

Sorry SuSu - didn't make myself clear thereI buy 180 pairs of dailies, pay for them interest free from my optician over a 12 month period costing £13 a month (total annual cost £156). As I don't wear them every day, 180 pairs tend to last me for a whole year. I'm going to give myself a challenge to see if I can stretch this any further, saving me some extra cash. :j
Thanks to you and everyone else for their help and support - I really appreciate it!Highest Debt - £21k+ Current debt - £3,926.30 :TDFW Nerd # 522 - proud to be dealing with my debts
