ID and right to work help.

Hi I have got an interview on Tuesday and they have asked me to bring proof of my right to work in the UK, and proof of my national insurance card.

I have not got a passport as I have not been abroad since I was 13 and my passport expired 4 years ago. I have not got a birth certificate as my mum said she has lost it since she has recently moved, and my driving license still has my previous address on.

It would be too expensive to get a passport and would take too long. As would changing the address on my passport. I was just wondering how I would go about getting a new birth certificate? Could I just go to a registry office and order one/get them to print one off? (I know I'd have to pay).

As for proof of NI, would a tax credit letter be okay? As that has my National Insurance number on there.

Im sorry to be asking such ridiculous questions, I just have been so long out of work that I know nothing about interviews and documents anymore.

You can get a new birth certificate from the registry office your birth was registered at, I believe you can even do this online.

    Google 'replacement birth certificate'

Thanks, if I can get one from the registry office I was registered at I'll go there. Bit of a long drive but will be worth it if I get the job! I have looked into ordering online but it says I'll receive it 15 days after I order so would be too long.

    Thanks for your help :)

Give them a ring before you go, they wont do one instantly, they should be able to
tell you how long it will be.

Some registry offices do birth certificates there and then but charge a little extra for this service.

The out of date passport might be acceptable - at least for the interview. You might call HR and ask?

Use this. Apart from the expiry date nothing else has changed - you're not trying to cross borders.

An out of date passport would be satisfactory. If you do go for a birth certificate make sure it is a long full version (a short one is not sufficient) and you can pay extra for quicker delivery!

Driving licence is not valid for right to work just for the record.

Afraid not. In the border agency's guidelines a driving license on its own does not provide the employer with any defense if found guilty of employing a worker who does not have the right.
