Transcom hassle over statute barred debt

Hi,
I received a letter from Transcom DCA months ago over an old Amex debt for approx £7000. It is over 6 years since i paid anything / acknowledged it.
I sent them a prove it / statute barred letter and last week I received a letter basically saying pay up, along with a photocopy of my signed credit agreement from 2001 and the amex T&C's.
What should my next step be? They didn't send me anything showing I have paid / acknowledged the debt in the last 6 years. I have double checked all my credit reports and it doesn't show on there.
Please help!
Thank you MM

Just out of interest..
What happens if I send the statute barred letter and it turns out not to be SB'd? I am 99.9% certain it is more than 6 years since I paid / acknowledged it.
Many thanks again, this is such a lifeline!
Thanks Millie0 -
If it's not statute barred they could issue you with a County Court summons.
Statute barred doesn't mean that you don't owe it, just that they cant enforce it.
Sounds as if it is SB if it isn't on your credit reports though.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -
Thanks,
In my original letter to them i said that although I didn't acknowledge the debt it would be unenforceable as its statute barred. In their reply they just sent a copy of the signed agreement from 2001 and the T&C's. They didn't send any info regarding any payments / acknowledgements from myself within the 6 year period.
Am I wise to send the SB letter or not? Many thanks for the advice McKneff and Fermi, I really appreciate it.0 -
Always follow Fermi's advice, it is awesome0

You said that you had already sent the standard SB letter?
It says quite clearly that you do not acknowledge the debt, so should not restart the clock if not SB. Saying that, templates are templates and can be changed. If you want to remove anything that you feel might be acknowledgement, then adjust as you see fit.Free/impartial debt advice: National Debtline | StepChange Debt Charity | Find your local CAB

Thanks again,
yes I originally sent them the hybrid prove it / statute barred anyway letter. I expected them to give me details of any payment / acknowledgement in the last 6 years but they didn't.
As I say, I am almost 100% certain its statute barred so I will send the letter that Fermi provided a link to.
Many thanks0 -
