how much money do you have leftover each month?

Hi all,

We are about to embark on this house buying lark (well, maisonette in our case!) and after having done some figures, worked out how much we will have left over each month once we have paid all the bills.

Between the two of us we will have £900 a month left, but most of that will be from my OH's salary as he earns double what i do...so i myself wont have alot left at all ! lol

I know it sounds like alot, but this will have to be for any extras..im not worried, i know its always hard when you buy your first house and we know for the first year or so that it will be tough. Just wondered what everyone does, or has any tips?

We have been used to having quite a nice lifestyle whilst renting, so its all going to change! :)

lol whats this 'money leftover' thing then?!? ha!

Recently we've had plenty leftover but then its REALLY leftover as we anally budget monthly for every tiny thing - even haircuts, ice-creams, xmas funds etc. As we are now trading up we wont have much for a year or 2 as we catch our feet again.

If your keeping your salaries seperate perhaps you should lopside the bills or something so that you both have a decent amount for your monthly pocket money each. Otherwise you can come to resent OH as they can go out but you cant. Each couple is different in this regard.

    hehe thanks..

I am trying to budget everything so we are as prepared as possible!

We keep our salaries seperate and then each put an amount into the joint account so everything is shared. We do it on a ratio based n our salaries which seems to work very well, we are both happy with that.

    Thankyou for the reply :)
