CCJ issued from the UK

Hi Folks
Just received a CCJ from a company in the UK but wasn't aware that it had gone this far.
I missed a few payments and had a couple of letters about being late with payments but nothing too heavy - then boom - this arrived out of the blue.
I have read somewhere that they CCJs from the UK cant be enforced here - is that true?
Thanks in advance guys:(

Hi, have a dig about on google, there is another forum, can't think of the name, and if the CCJ was issued via the Northampton clearing centre (or any other uk court) then its no good here, the ccj has to be applied for in NI for NI residents afaik,
Good luck, and keep us posted.0 -
Firstly this is the UK.
Secondly, ring the CAB but I'd put a sizeable bet on the CCJ being enforceable here. They'll probably sell the debt to a local firm and they will send people round to ask for the money. They obviously know your address.Stercus accidit0 -
Hi Folks
Thanks for the replies - according to a lot of "google info" it seems that there is a big difference in how CCJs operate and are enforced in the UK and NI - thats why I was asking.
Cheers0 -
We have a different legal system to England and Wales and Scotland. The judgement can still be enforced here. The difference is we have no bailiffs in NI.0

That depends on who you owe the money to!! :rotfl:0 -
NI is part of the UK. What you should be stating is GB and NI.leolion2177 wrote: »Hi Folks

Op the other forum is consumeractiongroup.co.uk
There's quite a few stories on there about folks from NI getting CCJ issued via the English courts system and getting them struck out (or whatever the term is.. Cancelled..)
Good luck.0 -

A judgement from a court in England can be easily enforced in N.I.
Chances are you are clutching at straws here OP. Your credit rating will be shot either way.0 -
It's a technical issue.
There's an automated CCJ centre in England (Northampton? Norwich? Something like that) which is used by some debt purchasing companies.
But it can only issue CCJs for English/Welsh addresses. The Scottish and NI systems are different. That means if they issue a CCJ for a NI address, it's incorrect and has to be set-aside. The debt company may also be laying themselves open to legal issues, as in taking out the CCJ there, they will have asserted that it is an English/Welsh address.
In practice, if there is actually a debt, they could still pursue it through the NI courts, but my understanding is that the local system is more reasonable than the English one - no Bailiffs, and Court Enforcement Officers can agree repayment terms based on your circumstances.
Caveat: this is all secondhand information....0
