Feeling of panic although not HUGELY in debt.

Hi,
I am a regular(ish) on MSE so have made a new name just for this post if no-one minds.
The reason I am posting is I really need help in working out how I can stop myself panicking.
Over the past few months (approx 4) I have had feelings that I can't control - feeling and actually being sick, diahorreah (sorry), heart beating fast, not sleeping well.
Having seen what fellow MSE people have to deal with makes me feel even worse because the symptoms I have are a bit irrational - but I just can't stop.
One of my main worries that I have is that I am self-employed so my wages can and do go up and down. We have a fairly large mortgage compared to our wages - our other outgoings are not major. Outgoings are £1600 and on a good month Incomings are £2000.
Neither of us smoke, we don't have a car (public transport is £60 a month).
We have 3 children.
Mortgage is £85k - we have 6 years left to pay on it - and by our calculations we will still have £10k outstanding after the term finishes because we have 2 endownments which won't cover the full amount (and although I have seen thread after thread about endownment help I just can't get my head around what to do to reclaim).
So, what is my problem? Am I worrying for nothing? Should I be grateful that I live in a nice house with 3 beautiful children? Of course! But I just can't shift the feeling of panic that finds me (usually when I'm lying in bed) about 2 or 3 times a week. I'm usually such a positive, happy person, full of life.
Any kind words/helpful advice would be very welcome.

Anxiety and panic attacks are a common mental health problem, usually caused by stress. Your GP will be able to refer you to someone for anxiety management sessions where you can learn about why it happens and how to control the symptoms.Official DFW Nerd No 096 - Proud to have dealt with my debt!0

YEah, get yourself to the Docs. They deal with panic attacks all the time, so dont feel like youd be wasting their time.Debt as at 12th July 2006 - £61,345 :eek: :eek: :eek:

Anything that makes you feel physically sick and stops you sleeping deserves serious attention, so please do not ignore it and think that you are being daft!
It seems that your endowment issue is causing you some confusion and concern. How about chatting this over with the CAB who may well be able to give you some help over how to claim for mis-selling?
Please go and see your doctor, as this is all obviously causing you considerable stress, and you are worth more than that. Whether the GP offers you counselling, vitamins or anti-depressants of some sort, this issue needs to go away and you sound as though you need some help to do it.
Have you put up a recent SOA under your other name? It might help focus your mind and re-motivate you.

I totally agree with the other s on here recomemding you pop into your GP's. Stress and anxiety are often looked at as being "wimpy" ilnessess (especially by men -Sorry) But if you had a broken leg you would be straight off to have it sorted......do the same for your mental health.
The gp will probalbly give you someting to help the symptoms, and being on here will help you address the cause
I suffered from panic attacks and anxiety and left it and left until i developed agoraphobia and all sorts of other stuf, making my recovery longer than it could ve been.
PLEASE nip yours in the bud.

My advice would be to echo what others have said go to the doctors. Panic attacks are no fun and a certainly not seen as wasting the doctors time it people with colds that waste the time for gp's.
See CAB about your endowment also you could nip into the endownment board there are some fab people full off knowledge that goes straight over my head they may be able to point you in the right direction :rotfl:
It may well be that the panic attacks are caused by the stress of the endownment now maturing as it is supposed to. Hopefully you sort that out then panic attacks will stop. But still get checked over.I used to suffer panic attacks when i was with my ex husband. I left him 6 years ago and not had one since (i must have been allergic to his poison:p) The doctor was fabulous and i was shown ways how to deal with them.You can touch the dust but please don't write in it !

My debts aren't huge compared to some peoples but I stress myself sooooo much about them.
I started suffering from anxiety/panic attacks/depression through other personal problems as well as my debt but my debt plays a big part. I find it so reassuring to come on to MSE and share my problems however sometimes I have to take a break from it (usually when I fall in to old bad habits - like Asda:eek: or if I'm feeling really bad M&S:eek: :eek:) because I'm becoming obsessed and stressed. Its a viscious circle though because I then have another lightbulb moment and start coming back on here and get myself back on track (THANK GOD!!):D :j

You are right about the "broken leg".
I am very grateful for the things that cost nothing (hugs and kisses off my kids, books from the library, free veg from the neighbour's garden etc - he gives it me honest, I don't climb over the fence in the middle of the night lol) and I do try to keep costs down to a minimum but when you are not quite on top of everything just 1 or 2 things seem to get you on the worrying cycle (1 child went abroad 2 years ago with the school and it will be the 2nd one's turn soon, the toilet is leaking and the knob on the shower has fallen off - have to use a toothbrush to switch it on and off lol).
I am a big penny pincher, we have 3 terrific Charity shops where I live where you can buy fantastic stuff for the house for very little (my sofa had really had it and I bought a top notch leather one for £50), I shop well both for food and everyday stuff - a £4 shirt/blouse from Asda looks just as good to me as a £60 bespoke one.
I can still laugh at things but just every so often that horrible feeling gets me.
I've left it a while to post to be honest because I thought people would say "£300+ a month left over! Spoilt brat!" but it's the fact that because I'm self-employed that could change at any time, plus I feel we have 3 kids to look after which is a lot of responsibility.
I am going to re-read the replies again - they have really helped and I WILL post asking for advice regarding our endownment (will get the forms out tomorrow).0 -
Off to bed now - feeling the best I have all week - it's amazing what a few cyber hugs can do lol
Will find those 2 endownment policies tomorrow and really sort them out. I have one for 30k and 1 for 11k I think - with a shortfall of around 10k if I did my sums right - I wonder if I would be entitled to any money back - will ask tomorrow.
