Your situation seems really difficult. Sorry stupid question I know but is the OR aware that without the cars you and your husband would be unable to work?

Yes given the petrol costs etc :-(

Is there anyway you could car pool with a colleague and you husband do the same on different days so you could go down to one vehicle in the household?

No I'm a feed worker n work across several offices but I live 25 miles from my base so ness I travel over ths a day. Can't claim anything back .. My husband des 3 days at office two from home I work 5 days part time

Is there anywhere else you or your partner could park? The costs are quite high, I've heard of people renting out their drives in homes near stations and city centres.

I park in a 80p an hour cheapest place when in city centre or £4 a day car lark husband the same ... We live not on a regular link

These are just questions to help you come up with a solution, I can't advice on your next course of action in this case, sorry. Hopefully
someone with more knowledge will be along shortly.

Thanks ... It's strange she knows we live in Durham I work Durham but not on a bus link to my office .. I drive Durham to Sunderland to take baby to parents n back to Durham or other offices in my remit as I'm a field worker .. My husband works newcastle .. So impossible to do it on buses .. I ave. small 1l citrine c1 so cheap to run hubby hgas a passat .. We ad them 6 years each .. She said sending someone to value cars n make a decision .. My parents can't help they already paid BR fees n deposit on my house so I cant ask fr more ... So I think after looking at it today if they guve us 1000 back we will ave to buy something in that region just seems crazy fir cars that are 7/8 yr od high mileage to ave to swap... My tax will go up as I only pay £20 a year ... It's the cars that are stressing me ... She wants a breakdown of mileage n parking each day n proof from my work that I can't caim paraking ...god I didn't think I woud be so hard.. But question ... I told my dad about cars n he was a bit angry as he bought n paid for my car last year when I downgraded in size to a 1l from my 1.6 to save money.. He has bought my cars since I was 18 ( 4 in total ) n I have never paid a penny apart from running costs .. So he as to buy ack what's his... :-( also he paid my husbands remaining £600 finance off in FEBUARY on advise from CAB tat we cud loose car if finance on it ...my parents r retired n m dad give me ths money to sort s out so its his retirement fund I've used :-(

Did she say you would lose the cars or that she would not allow all the expenses for them. Because as well as the £600 you would have insurance, tax and maintenance to consider.

I don't know your situation but even if the OR agreed the allowances could you actually survive on your remaining income. I know we would struggle to pay out that sort of money for cars the childcare before looking at general living conditions.
To me if you both want to work and I know it would mean the children moving schools but wouldn't be easier to move to where one of you works.

Yes we can there's still £180 for OR left ... No we live middle of my parents n work n where our Stepson lives ... But closer to wrk is more expensive as its city

Do you have evidence such as bank statements, etc, that your Dad paid for the car?

Yes dad said he can show he paid for it last year all receipts from garage in his name ... I've never had a car in my name

If you think the examiner is being unreasonable, then ask for the matter to be referred to an assistant OR. With a formal complaint if necessary.

After first call n ths one I'm close to it .. Waiting to see what she says after the next set if firms for breakdown

In that case, is it your Dad's car (and therefore not included in your BR estate) and you just have the use of it?

I suspect they will want copies of the paperwork, and maybe a letter from your Dad confirming things, but if it's not technically yours it can't be taken......

Thinking aloud on this one - if your Dad paid off the finance on OH's car of £600, could you argue that if car was worth £1,600, that £600 of it was your Dad's (sort of like beneficial interest in a house) and that it would then take the car down to the £1,000 allowance?

Not too sure on this angle, so see what a few other's say.
