Still no IPA paperwork from OR.

As the thread title say's, I have rung, emailed and rung again on numerous occasions and every time my OR tells me he's going to send us the IPA forms submit back to him so we can start paying are IPA.

How long should I wait? Should I be worried? what if I get an early discharge but haven't started to pay my IPA through no fault of my own? Has this ever happened? I was BR on Jan 4th. I really would like to get my IPA under way. The sooner I start paying, the sooner the 3 years will be over.

Is there anyone else I can contact to get the relevant IPA forms mailed to me?

Many thanks.

Have you signed forms to say you accept the IPA and the amount requested?

I haven't received anything at all to do with even starting an IPA from my OR.

  • Hi grumpy shunter,

Sorry to high jack your post but I note you live in a similar area to me and wondered if you could tell me how the court and or process was. At the moment we are trying to save the fees but I am making myself ill and miserable as so scared of the process. Thanks

GS, unfortunately I have read on here many people's posts where the IPA has not been agreed and got going until well into their BR year, not unusual even for it to be finalised until near the end. I am not sure the OR can be hurried and some clogs turn slowly. I understand how frustrating waiting must be and the desire to just get it over with though.

can I ask..while you are waiting for your IPA to begin, are you expected to live according to your SOA declaration or are you allowed to spend your disposable surplus income in full until you start making repayments? (apart from any tax from a nil tax code of course)

You can spend your surplus how you like (apart from gambling, paying off creditors preferentially to others, regular giving to charity etc. which are normal BR conditions) until the IPA starts and you should get plenty of warning as to when that will be while you negotiate amounts etc. and then get given a date.

OK until that paper work is signed you are not beholden to an IPA. If you are discharged without signing it then they can't come after you for it.

While I agree with Pippa and what she says is valid can I just add if you do put it aside you can give it to Moonbeever and your IPA time will be finish earlier.

  • Thank you for all the replies. The OR did say some time ago that whilst you're waiting to start your IPA, you can use your disposable income to get yourselves back on your feet - which is exactly what we have done in as much as a 2nd hand car, new glasses which I couldn't afford to replace whilst going through BR, a new tumble drier and cooker which we also couldn't afford to replace whilst going through initial BR.

The actual process of going BR , i.e. the court day, couldn't have been more simple and straight forward. In and out in 15 minutes, seeing and speaking to no-one other than the clerk.

The build-up and initial process of going BR is as hard and as stressful or as relatively easy and straight forward as you want it to be. Though in the real world, it's never totally stress free - I did a lot of homework and preparation in readiness for my BR, it has most definitely paid off.

I'm not qualified in anyway to give you any advice other than this; seek professional help. I used Step Change who were nothing short of fantastic with their advice through the entire process.

Life seems to just about normal now. I have a house (now renting), car, my job, more money than I have had for years and my wife and I are very happy, and of course, totally debt free. I don't have a credit card or an overdraft - and that suits me just fine.
