Denplan Care - how much are lab fees?

Hello,
I was thinking of going private and joining 'Denplan Care' because I don't feel that my NHS dentist is taking much interest!
It looks good. For a fixed monthly sum, everything is included...
...except lab fees, where required (e.g. crowns). There's no indication of what they might be.
Does anyone have any experience of Denplan?

This can be quite variable depending on what sort of crown and what lab the dentist uses.
Also, with things like gold crowns, the price of the item can vary significantly depending on the weight of gold in the crown.
Best thing would be to ask the dentist for an idea of the charges at the lab he/she uses.
The lab charges are certainly much much cheaper than paying full price private fees for these items though. How to find a dentist.
1. Get recommendations from friends/family/neighbours/etc.
2. Once you have a short-list, VISIT the practices - dont just phone. Go on the pretext of getting a Practice Leaflet.
3. Assess the helpfulness of the staff and the level of the facilities.
4. Only book initial appointment when you find a place you are happy with.0 -
I paid £90 for lab fees on a crown recently. It was a premolar.
Haven't regretted taking out Denplan Care yet, encourages me to go when I'm paying every month, and don't have to budget if I need a big job doing.0 -
The surgery I go to seem to offer their own 'denplan'. It has a different name, but as far as I can see it works in the same way. Is Denplan usually surgery-specific?This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0

I think Denplan is the biggest scheme with 6500 member dentists, according to Wikipedia.
Some dentists in my area use a local scheme which looks very similar to Denplan. They claim their fees are lower because they're not paying admin fees to support a national brand. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. There are lots of different schemes around. Some cover check ups , x rays, hygiene and emergencies, insurance plus a discount off dental work of typically 20%. These schemes tend to cost £10 to £13 a month.
Denplan offers products like this but also a scheme which covers everything other than lab bills and the monthly cost depends on the health of your mouth and what work You already have done. Costs for this vary from £15 to £40 a month ish.
When a surgery uses a company to provide a plan the company obviously takes an amount off each month for admin etc.0 -

I had a gold crown fitted recently via my Denplan dentist and was charged just over £130.
The dentist had warned me that it might have been between £120 and £180 though depending on the weight of gold!
I saw the invoice from the lab, and it was good to know that out of my £130 I was walking out of the door with about £85 in gold!
Something to leave the grandchildren
