Job References - Application form

Hi everyone,

I've got a question here, wanted to see what others would do in this position ?

I'm on the Work Programme, and just recently I have changed advisors. Thought it was something I'd done, but it has been cleared up it isn't it's just that they think this new advisor might me able to help more with the interview side of things. New ideas and all that.

Anyway, whilst on my previous advisors caseload, a few jobs I applied for were application forms which required two references. I just ended up putting the work programme manager and my advisor down.

I didn't just put them down because of attending the work programme, that is actually my last place of work as they took me on for four months last year. Both the manager and my advisor were working there at the time, so are people that have seen me work and stuff.

My new advisor has said that it is better to put people from two different places, rather than the same company. So that is something I am going to start doing now.

However, a few jobs I applied for with my previous advisor have got back to me inviting me for interviews and stuff. Do I:

1. Tell them I need to change one of the references ?

2. As they will have already seen the references I put down, and must be ok with them being from the same company to have invited me for an interview, leave them as they are ?

I can speak to my new advisor, and my previous advisor to see if they are ok with the second one. It would make it look daft changing them at interview wouldn't it ? Just want people's thoughts on this. Thank you.

  • Keep the ones there that are already there (don't faff around with changing them at this stage in the process), take your new advisors advice for future applications should they be necessary.

Good luck with the interview that you have coming up.

I would also keep the current ones and use the new ones for future applications.
