Black trousers, white shirt + tie and smart shoes sounds fine. Ive been for apprenticeship interviews and a few people turn up quite casual but I treat it as a normal interview.
Might be worth him doing a bit of research into the company just in case. In all of the ones for apprenticeships so far Ive been to, I had to do an assessment, just a basic Maths + English one. It depends on whether the interview is with the company or the learning provider as they can be a bit different. The learning provider is usually information into the position, group interview. With the company its usually more 1:1 and more direct questions.. Ive no idea about warehouse work though, so not sure of questions. Maybe 'Why would you want to do an aprenticeship?' 'What would you like to gain from this apprenticeship?'0
