treadmill buying

Hi guys.
Had a look around and quickly realised there was a lot of variation in treadmill prices. Also realised i dont have a clue what to look for.
I did a search and the only post i found was from 2008. Figured they may be cheaper now.
What should i look for/expect to spend? Im new to running and not keen on doing it outside or at the gym. My partner and i would both be using it so it works out cheaper than the local gym.
My aim is weight loss, i assume treadmill is best? Or would a cross trainer be better? If so what to look for etc.
Thanks!

What is best is the one you will least likely to give up.
I don't like home equipment as it seems too flimsy, but a reasonable treadmill will be around £400-£500. They don't tend to change in price.0 -
If you're aiming for weight loss, you need some strength training in there with the cardio. Push-ups, squats, lunges, pull-ups.
Also - have you looked at your diet? You can out-eat any exercise.

I would say cross trainer, rower or bike is better. Reason being a great way to weight loss is high intensity training, ie you go at a leisurely pace interspersed by periods of extreme pace. This is harder to to on a treadmill as the change of pace takes longer. Its not impossible but its just so much easier on a bike.
I have all 4, I use the rower the most but I do most of my HIT on the bike. I use treadmill just to warm up/down or zone out. GF like the treadmill however so each to their own.
As heartbreak says weight training is better, and eating correctly is worth 5 times any workout you do.
edit: jsut to add, a decent treadmill will cost you a ton more than a decent one of the other 3, just due to its size and its need for power. Cost wise i got my rower for 150 (an air rower), bike 100, and the treadmill was 300 (but was 800 new the year before), so you can see a big variation in price.0
