which product to give volume/texture to layered hair?

Hi all,
I've just had my hair cut and had a short layer put in, sides feathered etc. I love it, my hair feels loads lighter and it has way more movement than the way it was before (shoulder length, one long layer, and straightened all the time).
My hair is not naturally straight, its sort of wavy.
Which product should I be using now, to make the most of the short layer and encourage the wave (I have no intention of straightening it, I want it to look full of volume instead).
Last time I used anything to encourage volume was when I had a perm about 25 years ago
. Then it was mousse - is that still the way to go?

I'm glad you said 25 years ago
then I used Studio Line Sculpting Mousse, I've no idea whether you can still get it but it worked.
Since then I've used Fructice (sp?) wax (the one in the green tub) that seems to work well.0 -
I have heard good things about the l'oreal salt spray on wavy hair, it is supposed to give a good finish
I have completely different hair to you but I am going to give it a try and see what its like. Mine is very long,v thick, coarse and curly so I am hoping that it will look more defined and not just a mop0 -
Products containing magnesium sulphate encourage wave and movement. You can make your own spray up with epsom salts conditioner and water, but minerals (including table salt/ sodium chloride sprays) can be drying with regular use.

Otherwise you might try modified Curly Girl to encourage your natural wave pattern and body - sulphate free shampoo, silicone free conditioner and styling products, comb or finger style don't brush, scrunch water out with microfibre towel or woven cotton cloth instead of a regular terry cotton towel turban.Declutterbug-in-progress.⭐️⭐️⭐️ ⭐️⭐️0 -
I have really thin and fine hair. I've been using the FAT range which you can find in Superdrug, its really good, they do a fabulous dry shampoo as well."You've been reading SOS when it's just your clock reading 5:05 "0

I LOVE the Loreal salt spray - I have waist-length layered hair and it manages to give that texture so it'd probably be even better on short hair

thanks for the Salt Spray suggestions, just bought the L'Oreal one (2 for £4 in Boots at the mo
). It appears to be working wonders on my hair (I used it on dry hair, not damp, this morning) - it doesn't feel like I have any product on at all and yet its holding the bounce in my hair really well! 0
