hey all
just doing my S.E. tax return for 11/12 (late.. yes i know)
i had a building business that i started in 2011, started well but work tailed of towards end of the summer so i had to look for subcontract work... started on a site groundworking in september. on the first week had a call from wages dept of firm i was working for saying my utr would register as it was sole trader.. had to register for CIS which i had 20% tax deduction and in total i paid nearly £1000 un taxes.
Now, i am filling in my tax return and a utr for my sole trader and have noticed on the payslip from the subby work a different utr code...
how do i go about this in regards to my tax return... and also claim this money back???

if HMRC had issued a second UTR in error you would have received a letter from them with the second UTR on it at some stage. More likely the contractor has made an error. Check with them first and then contact HMRC with both UTR's for further clarification.
Just a thought - if you were declared bankrupt at any time then HMRC draws a line under the old UTR and issues a new one for the period after bankruptcy. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0
