Paperwork on default and settled accounts.

Few quick questions on paperwork:

1. A defaulted account which has now been settled. How long should I keep the paper work in relation to that account (statements, debt collection letters, settlement letters etc.)?

2. Monies owed on accounts that have not been settled but no one is chasing the debt?

3. CCJ on account not settled and no one is chasing it?

4. After 6 years of an account with a CCJ can the company legally chase you for the money (i.e. it drops of credit file but can they go back to court)

5. In relation to number 2, how can one find out who wants paying for the debt?

Any help much appreciated

    1. I would keep it forever. Along with a copy of your credit report showing it as settled with the date. Why not scan everything and store online?

    2. Again, keep indefinitely. Along with credt file entry. Keep checking your credit file in case they get a CCJ. Especially if you moved house.

    3. Same. After 6 years creditor needs to go back to court to get it renewed. Rarely granted.

    4. Same as 3.

    5. Search your credit report. It should list the current owner. DCAs might get alerted especially with a new address and they will then find you.
