Job Interview

During my last 1 2 1 with my then manager, I was told that the whole team were applying for jobs in the team that are slightly above us in the hierarchy. I thought about it and I don't really have any intention of doing the job that was being talked about, but not being one to be left out (all the jobs are changing and the team I am currently in will be doing 2 x the work we already do and no one is happy about it), I decided to do the online application form. As it happens, 1 of my colleagues did not apply because a family member passed away, 1 just could not be bothered, 1 lost all her paperwork as she forgot to save the documents and her computer crashed and I am not too sure about the others. (I think some might be saving face by saying they have not applied because they did not get an interview).
Shortlisting has taken place and I have been offered an interview next week. I am in two minds, like I said I don't really have any intention of doing the job, but I was also told by one of the managers who did the shortlisting that she was very impressed with my application and that if they could offer the job based on just the form, it would be mine. She made a big song and dance of how fabulous it was and I just wanted to run off crying, (I'm not used to praise, I normally get overshadowed in my team as I am one of the quietest ones there and I don't sit and go on about how fabulous I am after I have done one tiny piece of work).
What do I do now?
Do I just go into work on Monday and say I don't want to go for the interview and thanks very much OR go for the interview and see how it goes? I just don't want them to go through the whole process with me and then find out I never really wanted the job in the first place.
Also, if I were to go for the interview, do I need to wear a suit and the works or would a shirt and tie and trousers suffice? For me it's an internal position anyway. I'm not applying for the job externally.
Thanks to anyone who can offer some advice.

Why did you apply for a job you don't want to do? Or do you really want it but don't think you are worthy of it? What would you do if you were offered it? It's not like you can turn it down if it's internal...so you might end up really annoying the manager who is recruiting.Sanctimonious Veggie. GYO-er. Seed Saver. Get in.0

I applied for the job simply because everyone else in my team was going for it. I didn't want to be left out and the work we currently do is doubling, so I guess that helped motivate me.
I am sure I would be able to do the job if I was given the training. I currently do the basics of the job I have applied for. The job is more specialist and I have basic knowledge of it.
Well I doubt I will be offered it, I am not good at interviews but Lord knows what I would say if I was offered it. I know I would not be able to give it a go and return to my old job if I didn't like it.0 -
What you can say if offered is 'I am flattered but I am quite happy in this role, to consider the move I'd be looking at at least £xk more than I am on now'. and make that £xk a decent enough rise to be worth the move.Sanctimonious Veggie. GYO-er. Seed Saver. Get in.0

If I were you, I'd go to the interview and if you really don't fancy it, speak to the person who interviewed you and thank them for their time, but you've slept on it and you're currently happy in your job and don't want to move, whatever the outcome.
That being said, I really hope you go for it. Sounds like you've been working hard and you deserve to be recognised for it, even your managers think so. Believe in yourself and good luck in which ever you choose!0 -
Just thought I would update this thread. Went for the interview and apparently I did really well. When I got the telephone call, I was hoping it was going to be a "Sorry but you were not good enough", but they offered me the permanent job. I was not sure, but after a lot of thinking it through and being pressured by some of the managers, I have decided to take it and see how it goes. I guess it would have looked a bit daft to not have accepted. I now have to do less work and earn a good few £K extra.
Thanks all for your advice. Woo. Woo. Woo.
