Wages Date differs from month to month

Hello
My husband doesn't have a set wages date just it will be paid during the last week of the month. I've checked his staff handbook and all it says is he will be paid monthly. He's worked there for around 10 years and its always been this way. I've not usually got a problem as its usually in the bank 4 working days before the end of the month, except last month it wasn't in the bank until the 1st of this month! Slight panic ensued as all our dd's go out on the 1st of the month :eek:
Anyway the point of this post is to ask if employers HAVE to state a specific date/day of the month you get paid by?

Have you looked at moving your direct debits till later in the month in case it happens again?Don't trust a forum for advice. Get proper paid advice. Any advice given should always be checked0

Don't forget that March had a double bank holiday with Easter which may have delayed things.
Why not move your DDs to a slightly later date so they're not affected by a moveable pay day?0 -
Thanks for the suggestion of moving my dd's, but it suits us to keep them as they are.
I know that on this occassion it wasn't to do with bank holidays as it has happened in the past late payments (he works for his brother and on more than one occassion I have turned up at his house with the kids in tow asking him to feed them as he hasn't paid his staff on time
)
My main question was, is there a requirement for employers to stick to a set paydate/day of each month - I just think its a bit vague not having a set date each month, some months its the last Tuesday of the month or last Thursday of the month and sometimes its anywhere in between!0 -
As far as I'm aware there's not a legal requirement to have to stick to set dates, it will go off what's in his contract so it doesn't say a date there then as long as he's actually being paid for the work he's doing there's probably not a great deal he can do.
Has he tried mentioning to his employer that this is causing an issue for him? We get paid the last Friday of the month, but on the rare occasions when it's been the actual last day of the month then they will try and do the Thursday if possible as people have mentioned to them about issues with dds coming out.0 -
The date my wages go in the bank is hugely variable - the end of our pay month is the 27th, with wages being paid into bank 3 working days later, so for example if the 27th falls on a Tuesday we get paid on the Friday 30th, but if the 27th was to fall on a Thursday and the Monday the following week was a bank holiday we wouldn't get paid until the Wednesday 2nd or 3rd of the following month.0

Thanks guys.
I just thought that as my payday is 21st of the month (this is the date it goes into my bank) unless this falls on a Saturday/Sunday/Bank Holiday then its in the bank on the Friday each and every month without fail :-) I thought it was normal procedure.
He has spoken to his boss (brother) about this on numerous occasions - but he takes no notice (siblings, eh??)0
