Advice regarding reclaiming tax overpaid

Options
Evening,

In the past 12 months I've had 1 JSA claim and 3 jobs. When I started working for my 2nd employer I paid the basic rate for tax for the first 2 salary payments. At the time this was my only job and therefore should have received my Tax Free Allowance. It was all sorted and I was on the correct code but no sign of any reimbursement of tax paid.

Fast forward now I am with my new employer I am on the tax code for basic rate again. I've managed to submit my P45 so hopefully this should be sorted for next month but again I've overpaid tax.

I now want to reclaim this all as it's roughly £400 (there or there abouts) that I am owed.

I've written to HMRC with the relevant PAYE information for the companies, my employee details etc but have received a letter back asking for things like P45's and what not.

Only problem with this is, I don't have any. Any time I've received one I've submitted it to my new employer...

I've approached the DWP regarding my P45 for JSA but apparently they can't help out with it, they don't reissue them? How do I then go about getting something that proves what I received and how much was deducted in tax?

Same for other employers, should I be asking them for a statement of earnings detailing the tax paid etc so that I can have HMRC do a tax calculation?

I've never done this before so please be gentle. Any help is appreciated.

if you were on the correct code a tax refund would have been automatic. What tax code were you put on?

provided you are put on a cumulative tax code - ie one with no Mth1/Wk1 at the end - the refund for any overpaid tax from 6th April will be paid.

Any time you have a P45, part 1a should always be retained by you as it's your copy. What did you do with them?

The HMRC should have copies of everything you have received anyway.

Are you just plucking £400 out of the air. If you have little or no paperwork you can't possibly even hazard a guess really.

Ring the HMRC, See what they have, Once they have your p60 from the end of the last tax year, they should be able to tell you over the phone whether you are entitled to a refund or not. They wont be able to tell you how much because it will have to go to the calculations dept.
make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.

Sometimes when your tax code is sorted when working, you don't actually see a refund but it may come as a reduction of the tax that you pay on that particular month/week.

Do you have copies of your payslips you can check on.

When I signed off JSA I would have given my P45 to my new employer.

When I then left a particular job to go to another I didn't have a P45 through the post yet so completed a P46 form. I was then paid a short salary as I had only been there for 2 weeks. The tax that was taken off was 20%.

I was taxed about 20% the following month as well. Got no Tax Free Allowance either month.

£400 isn't a random figure, that's a rough figure of what my wages have been short due to not receiving my Tax Free Allowance.

You should have kept part 1A of your P45 from your JSA claim, lots of previous posters have discovered this is a crucial bit of information in sorting out a tax refund with HMRC.

If you post the total pay and any tax for each job and the JSA it should be easy to check if your £400 figure is accurate.
