£3000 in 60 days

Hi guys. I have a bit of a task on my hand, I plan to leave for thailand for the summer on July 1st to do a diving instructors course so I can come back and forth to Tailand / Egypt as I please teaching freediving. I'm already a freediving but I need £1700 for the instructor course, £400 for one way flight, and the rest I've worked out to spend on food, accommodation and motorbike hire.

It works out to be £50 a day if I start at the beginning of May. Has anyone done anything like this? I plan on getting rid of everything I own on eBay, which is worth about 1k (diving stuff, cameras, Xbox, tv's etc) so I'm still hire a bit short.

Does anyone have any suggestions? I'm currently self employed but work is soo scarce I'm on JSA but have just about had enough of this country.

Thanks for your help :)

  • Cant you do the training here then go out already qualified? I know nothing about diving but in general are British qualification not held in higher esteem than Thai ones, or is the course a universal one? I've been selling things on Facebook, no fees, people collect so no wrapping, arranging couriers or standing in queue at postoffice! Good luck with your plans jamesflood, i wholly empathise with your feelings about this country. :)

The cost of living n Thailand is cheaper and therefore the courses. It all seems a bit far fetched but I've I worked out both outgoings for this country and thailand and its actually cheaper for me to tale and live there for the summer than stay here on the dole and try to sell stuff to pay bills. Bloody country eh!! :(

Do you have any 'start up' to put into it? Things like matched betting or buying/selling might help but would be difficult to build up to that amount in a short period without a bit of a float to start it with.

Have you looked for temping work, things like shift work in factories can often pay ok (and tend to be more available coming into summer) or look for something like supermarket work and take as many shifts as you can (I know people who work in them and say that you can always find people wanting to give up shifts, especially at weekends, so it's quite easy to work 7 days a week if you want to).

What skills do you have that you could offer? Get some flyers made up and go round your local area - offer to do odd jobs, mow lawns, tidy gardens (again a good time of year as people are starting to think about their gardens again coming into summer). If you have more specific skills then see if you can get onto freelance sites and offer it out. Look at car boot sales as well for smaller/low cost items that might not shift on ebay - they can soon add up.

How about some gardening work. You could do some leaflets and post them locally. Around here the going rate is about £10 ph and just now there's plenty of work. Get you fit to.

Ok so an update on my progress, I have had a little over £1000 tax rebate this morning, so I'm now in the market for £2k haha.

Is there any 'secure' ways of investing a grand to make more? I'd really appreciate it :)

    Yes.

    Cash deposit, backed by guarantee.

You can get almost 3% at the moment. It's the end of April now, so by July your £1000 will have turned into...

    £1005
    :)

If you still can't get the money, then a loan maybe? I wouldn't recommend it, but it's a sure way to get money fast.

Also, monitor exchange rates and start converting some cash over time into the other currency you need to pay for things in Thailand.
