Giving my landlord notice

I am currently going through a mortgage application, which my advisor believes I should have no problems passing.

In terms of giving my landlord notice, when should I look to give notice? I was looking at giving a week overlap to move etc. what happens if the application falls through?

Have you got a date fro completion, sounds as though you aren't near exchanging as yet as you haven't got a mortgage.

Have you got a solicitor yet, sounds as though you might be some time away from moving.

Until you exchange contracts , you have no commitment either way, so the whole thing could collapse and you could then be homeless, I would advise wait till exchange, unless you have a fallback of being able to move in with parents or friends.

I've got a solicitor and mortgage app seems near completion.

Not sure about the whole process. When does my mortgage start? I don't want to leave it so that I'll be paying for rent and mortgage together for too long.

Set the completion date a couple of weeks after exchange, once you have exchange give your notice in, You then should only have a small window to move then clean up. However it's always worth giving your landlord a heads up as your intentions so he can get his ducks in a row.

What sort of tenancy are you on? Is it a fixed term or a statutory tenancy?

Statutory tenancy. I've given my landlord a heads up already.

By telling your landlord already he/she will want to market the rental property and find a new tenant ASAP so they have no void periods when the property is empty.
It maybe a great time to find a new tenant NOW rather than wait 8/10 weeks because you are not ready to move yet.
It would be better to pay rent and mortgage for 4/5 weeks rather than being homeless!!
You only need to give one calander months notice to run inline with when your tenancy started

You "sometimes" have to do some work at work? Outrageous.
