Cardboard Boxes for moving

Options
Hi,
I am in the process of moving house and am in need for cardboard boxes. Can anyone suggest where I can find cardboard boxes for free?

I have tried morrisons and they only have banana boxes and B&M bale theirs.

Many thanks

We couldn't find any decent free ones when we moved, and ended up buying them from ebay.

I've had boxes from both Tesco & Asda - but I think the key is that you need to ask one of the assistants. In both cases, I asked assistants who were re-stocking freezers, and on both occasions they went into the back room and came out with a few for me, although they were flattened, so I had to tape them up again - no problem! I'd also try local shops (Co-op/Spar/Nisa) and ask if they could put some on one side for me if they haven't got any there and then. HTH
  • You'll find with most supermarkets/big shops these days that boxes get flattened and squashed in bailers. You don't really think that they have mounts of empty boxes stacked up 'out back ?

If you have a Morrison's locally, they usually have loads of banana boxes which are ideal. In ours, they are stacked on shelves opposite the tills. You might have to try a few times on different days.

Most supermarket stock comes in shelf ready packaging. For example, jars of cooking sauces and jams come on the tray but wrapped in shrink wrap stuff. Others the shop worker needs to rip off about a quarter of the box and put it on the shelf like the packet sauces.

I did ask the Sainsburys near to my work when I was moving and they saved me some very good boxes - pasta and biscuits are the best boxes as they already had a heavy load inside them. They flatten them and put them inside a large crisps box as it takes up less space in the car.

Wine and spirits bottle boxes are great for books, DVDs and CDs as you cannot lift a large box full of books. Then once I moved in, I put the boxes on the shelves.

You will find that the banana boxes with lids from morrisons are great

Have you tried asking on Freecycle? That's where I got all mine for a move, then put them back on for someone else to use.

I did the same in Iceland - the assistant brought me a pile from the back which were flattened but easy to tape up again.
