Survey on a new(ish) build?

Hi all,
Valuation went unchallenged the other day, so just waiting for underwriter to sign us off on mortgage approval... touch wood!
The flat is leasehold and only built in 2000 (quite modern design), and husband doesn't think we need to bother with survey as a result.
I think we should to cover our backs, though money is tight until completion so if we can save on something then we want to.
Is it worth getting it done or not? And if so, any recommendations on companies in the Essex / London area and prices that are reasonable to pay for a pretty new 2 bed flat...?
Thanks!
Miss Merlot

TBH I'd have paid the supplement and got the lender's surveyor to do a HomeBuyer's Report if you are that bothered.
On a flat, you're going to have so many "limitations" in the contract, you may wonder if it's worth it.
Try the RICS site for surveyors in your area and have a chat to see what they think.I am a mortgage broker. Take a close look at the service charges and whether any sinking fund reserves have built up.0
