You are obviously worried about the tax. The experts on the Cutting Tax board should be able to help answer this- maybe try posting a seperate thread over there

oojakapipi - thanks. My partner isn't self-employed though, so if the company don't drop the charges, would he still be able to claim them back? And if so, who from?

Thanks the_cat - think I am worrying without reason though really, he's not going to accept any jobs so therefore no work done. The reassuring posts have helped - cheers!

Please don't worry about tax, the only time to do that is when he is actually earning money on a self-employed basis. The area you need to focus your energy on is the fact that the woman mis-sold. Complain, complain, complain! Bug the hell out of yellow pages and look into contacting watchdog, that woman will be stopped sharpish! And so she should, what a slime-ball.

oojakapipi - thanks. I'm going to write to Yellow Pages outlining the situation, contact Trading Standards and get in touch with CAB - hopefully it will be sorted out. As I said earlier, the best laugh is the fact that the advert has only brought in one call!! Well if you didn't laugh you'd cry...!

Can I just make a small suggestion - as much as I think the CAB do a fantastic job, for your problem you will probably get better results from talking to National Debtline, they give advice over the phone, CAB don't. It is a free service and I don't have their number handy at the moment but you can find it if you do a site search, or a google search.
    Good luck!

oojakapipi - thanks again! I've used National Debt Helpline before and they are good - I'll give them another shot. Must admit that CAB are pretty hard to get through to - they do a good job though!
