My mums car tax is due in 13 days(may 31st), she had a letter to apply for as new one today so she tried to do it online as its easier and she got the stage where it askd for the mileage and it said it couldnt match the certificate with the insurance, can you apply for the tax up to the last minute ie 10pm on may 30th

The notice or the site should give you an indication of how long you have to apply by via the web. Whats this discrepancy between mileage and the insurance certificate though? I'd look into that first - at least its only 18/5/07now so you still have plenty of time to get the tax sorted

We have this problem as our insurance renewal is co-terminous with the RFL renewal. We had to go to the post office in the end as the website says five days are required to process and post the new tax disc.

In the end we took a six month disc to avoid the problem for next time.

The mileage request is optional, don't include it, the following is from HERE

Also if you wait until 10 p.m on 30th May you then have 5 days that you may have to wait ,( possibly longer, or never as in my case),for the licence to turn up, and you cannot legally drive a vehicle whilst not displaying a current tax disc.
