How common are they?
Has anyone here had any experience of them?

Just to clarify I'm talking about CSA.

I attended one many years ago because I felt I had grounds to be moved from CSA1 (1993) to CSA2 (2003) reducing my maintenance from 33% to 15%. My reasoning - my ex-partner had got married, had a 2nd child, got divorced, was back on benefits and was dealing with a case via CSA2. This should've migrated my from CSA1 to CSA2.

The outcome didn't go my way - not only wouldn't they move my assessment as my ex-partner had stopped pursuing the new claim and although they had started the process they wouldn't continue until my ex-partner contacted them.

Also, they noticed that they had missed the child benefit/CTC elements from my new partners income and they increased the amount I was paying in maintenance.

It was a bit of a waste of time as they would very strictly only address the specific issue that I had raised and not answer questions about anything else related to my case that arised after I had submitted the paperwork.

The Tribunal was a last step - I did have a visit from a case worker and she said that the Tribunal probably wouldn't provide the outcome I was looking for.

    Hope that helps.??

Yes,we had a tribunal earlier in the year. The CSA said we couldn't ,only on a point of law. We said we believed we could! They sent paperwork which we filled in & said what we wanted corrected. They said we hadn't asked for the reduction for the children in our home in time ! We said how could we ?We wanted them taken off the arrears we didn't even know we had.(We had a private arrangement ,but despite all proof, the CSA believed the pwc.) Long story..short ,the judge allowed us £1400 off the 'arrears' as although the CSA said it was too late to claim(Obviously we would have claimed if we knew we were under the jurisdiction of the CSA!)the judge believed us !He was very understanding and gave us chance to speak.
I had to sit next to my husband(the NRP),CSA lady next to me,the pwc's friend and then the pwc. It was held around a big table -the judge one end & us all at the other end. There was another CSA representative in the corner & a lady typing up everything that was said ! Strangely, the CSA said they couldn't find our paperwork ..we had our Data that we got off the CSA with us anyway !

What happens if one or other party does not attend?

I will be going for lifestyle inconsistency as a PWC. I very much doubt he will turn up.

They will carry on in absence of the other party and rely on the information they have to hand...

The PWC in my case didn't attend
