Full glasses prescription

Hi,

I would like to find an opticians in Wigan who will provide me with a FULL glasses prescription. The last eyetest I had was with specsavers and they refused to put all the details (pupil to pupil distance etc) on the precription.
Thanks in advance for your help

I thought a glasses prescription was for the vision in each eye. Not sure why you would need any more than that. You can take your prescrition to any optician for a new pair of specs, they will measure the distance between your eyes.

  • The PD measurement is not part of your prescription. You can do it yourself quite easily.

The reason that it is not provided is because the PD measurement or more importantly lens centration is part of the dispensing process. Either the dispenser does it or if you are dispensing yourself - you get the pleasure and responsibility of doing it.
Beware the character seeking personal gain masquerading as a moral crusader.

  • Hubby got his eyes tested in Spec savers today, they had no problem giving him his pupil distance. Think it may depend on the person dealing with you. He did buy his glasses there. I wanted to order a couple of cheap pairs to have for spares for upstairs/caravan as he only wears them for reading and always throws them at his backside.
  • You are entitled to a copy of any information that is held about you so if you have already bought spectacles from an optician they would have measured your pupil distance and you are entitled to this measurement (although they are allowed to charge for it). If you have never had spectacles then the optician won't normally give it to you because this means they are taking some responsibility for 'dispensing' your new spectacles which they wouldn't want to do if they aren't supplying them. In many cases the pupil distance needs to be modified in some way or other measurements taken into account so unless your prescription is very low and straightforward a lot can go wrong.
