Highly misleading headline by the BBC. Since they want to redeploy over 2,000 of the staff they're not "cutting 3,166 UK jobs" at all, the actual figure embedded in the article is 1149.

Poor journalism.
May limit the impact on the country's employment figures for those involved it will be real job losses.
As is often the case staff won't be "re-deployable" when the the actual allocation starts."If you act like an illiterate man, your learning will never stop... Being uneducated, you have no fear of the future.".....

I know a lot of people who work for HSBC. Over the course of the redundancies in the last few years a few of them have lost their jobs. So far every one of them has been redeployed.
So anecdotally I don't agree that this is just lip-service, HSBC appear to be a company who take redeployment instead of redundancy seriously.0 -

Depends whether you are at risk or actually displaced.
IME if a department or section is closed down, renamed, reorganised and relocated, with a different staff structure and mix a lot of staff will not be redeployable.
If it is an arms and legs, top sliced reduction in a central location like London then yes people will likely be able to find an alternative role."If you act like an illiterate man, your learning will never stop... Being uneducated, you have no fear of the future.".....
