Can I have two dentists at the same time?

I am currently undergoing root canal treatment with my dentist. For various reasons I haven't been too impressed with the treatment, and my plan was to wait until it was finished and then change dentists.
I went on Monday for what I thought/hoped was the final treatment, however, she was unable to do the filling as I still had some pain so she cleaned it out and put another temporary filling on. I have to go back in mid May and she thinks she will be able to finish it then.
The problem is that I have a problem with another tooth that I also think needs a root canal which I have not mentioned to her (it has only started recently) and I really don't want to go through the same thing again (the problem with the tooth she is treating has been going on for over a year now). I just want it sorting out quickly.
Can I see another dentist to sort out tooth no 2 whilst still being on the first dentists books for tooth no 1?

If you are talking nhs in then no. The computer system will recognise one patient being treated at the same time by two different dentists and a whole load of complications then arise. In scotland and NI there is still registration and you may find yourself not registered with either dentist, in England and Wales you may find all sorts of investigations opened up.
If private then yes you can but it would really be better to get the root treatment you've got going underway finished first.0 -
That would be better, but my next appointment is not until mid May and I am fed up. I've had 7 appointments since I first started getting pain in this tooth and I just want it to be sorted out.
I'm seeing another dentist tomorrow, they said they can finish the treatment although I will have to pay again. I don't mind that.0
