Blonde highlights

Could do with some advice.

My highlights are growing out and it's time for me to get my roots done. However, i find my current highlights are too far too light and looks a 'block' colour.

I was wondering what I needed to ask the hairdresser for to break it up a bit and not so light?

Should I take a picture in to show them what I want? Are there any celebrity blonde hair colours you like?

Thanks in advance.:)

Have more than one colour put through. I have three colours, something darkish, something just a bit lighter than my own hair and something light. That's extreme and I know a lot of people would dislike such variation, but closer together tones would work too. If its blocky you need to break up the colour.

What lostinrates said. I get two colours one lighter blonde and one darker blonde, my hairdresser kinda weaves them in. Either that or try something different, maybe some dark blonde slices of colour to break it up a little.

Thanks lost and sweet. Do you leave your own colour in at all?

Do you ask for it finely weaved and how do I choose the colours?

Yes, my own colour is still in. It's just the same as highlights with one colour, they take a bit and leave a bit. The proportions need fiddling with each time. Eg I look a bit 'gold' ATM so will be having more of the darkest colour (darker than my own hair) next time.

Your colourists should help you with the colours.....I have had broadly the same for most of my adult life tbh.....sometimes I get excited and have some strawberry blonde tones to warm things up, but generally I know what I like. My husband is also very attached to the way I do my hair, he protested a bit when I went brunette for a while:o

I also pick out individual bits I want in the colours at times....this is because of the particular way I wear my hair. I have curly hair and like to have different colours in the same ringlet.

I though nearly everyone had a mix! I have at least 3 or 4 tones in the mix for my highlights, so must be the way to go not to look just bicolour!

Yes, me too nowadays. But the multi colour, for me, isn't on reflection the whole thing, its getting the mixture right each time, when more or not as much dark is needed, what the mid tone might add......

The problem with highlights is you are going over and over the same areas time and time again, so you bleach on top of bleach and it does get lighter. Why not have mid and low lights this time no new blonde/ bleach, blend your hair into your roots rather than your roots into your hair? Google Images is amazing for photographs.
