Do agencies ever listen?

Ive been in my current job 8 months and to be honest at the moment Im not that actively seeking a new job, but keeping my eye out there etc.
Im signed up to this agency who specialise in jobs in my sector - they did actually find me my first job so they should know my background etc.
Anyway this agency constantly call my mobile whilst Im in work - which they know I can't answer, and then when I don't pick up they call my house phone (OH is there so always tells them Im in work) but this goes on.
Most of the calls are totally pointless, normally asking me if Im interested in working in a city 70 miles away, They then proceed to tell me that I'm 'perfect' for the role and the salary is "negotiable", however I happen to know they are only paying about £1k more than my current employer and Id need at the very least £5k to make the travelling in both cost and time worthwhile and Ive told them this on numerous occasions.
I told them the only places I could work would be this city or the Centre of the next city (as Id have to get the train).
They asked if I was interested in being put forward a job in the next city, I said ok assuming it was city centre.
I had a voicemail after work Friday asking me to attend an interview Monday - well no as Ive had no notice!
Anyway they mentioned the name of the company but didnt tell me where it was.
Ive Googled the company and its in the middle of nowhere, and it would require me to get a train and 2 buses which is no good to me at all, especially as they proceeded to tell me on the voicemail they were willing to pay 'up to' £2k more than my current employer, and calculating the costs I would end on less than Im currently on
Does anyone have any advice of dealing with agencies who just don't listen, or am I better off just telling them to remove all my details as I dont seem to be getting anywhere at all with them...:o

brick wall comes to mind, rarely hear from them had one call me then say if I got an interview with the job they were putting me forward for would I come in and register........doh already registered - they contacted me about this job via reed.co.uk - why did they not check details of folk registered with them?
Others only call to say "hi my name is xyz I am new to the company and checking if you are still looking"I am responsible me, myself and I alone I am not the keeper others thoughts and words.0 -
Tell them to take your details off their file and then they can not contact you ever again! We’ve had to remove your signature. Please check the Forum Rules if you’re unsure why it’s been removed and, if still unsure, email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0

Firstly, never give them your home landline number; mobile is best esp if you have free voicemail or lots of minutes.
To 90% of them you are just a commodity to be traded; they get paid when they get you any job.
Some are better than others and they should be more selective but even these will offer you positions that aren't suitable.
You can also register on job websites and get alerts every few days.spidereyes wrote: »Ive been in my current job 8 months and to be honest at the moment Im not that actively seeking a new job, but keeping my eye out there etc.

Can't you just tell this particular agency that you're not on the market? If you do decided to step up your job search in the future you can either keep an eye on their website, or tell them you are back on the market.
They may not be listening to your requirements at the moment, but they're not (usually) entirely stupid and won't try and flog a dead horse if you definitely say you're not looking for another job at the moment.0
