Work Grievance -Worthwhile or not?

Evening folks,

Looking for some assistance and there are lots of helpful people on here.

Basically been Seconded to a job for the last 15 months or so. The actual job has a certain pay structure starting rate of around 20k.

I however have been purposely been paid around £3500 less that the actual banding what appears on purpose/decieved/strung along however you want to put it.

I work along side other staff who when they got the same job were correctly given the correct banding/pay along with historically everyone else that has been there. However our office feels the need to shaft everyone else that is doing this job now.

There is various excuses being passed around why several people that are in the same position as myself have not been

A- made permanant
B- paid the appropriate level for the area.

One of their main excuses is that aparently 'no where does it state our complex area would be paid differently from a manager in another team looking after a less complex area.

Well I have actually found the pay details for the whole Section which details the bandings/pay for our area and it clearly states that my area that I work and I should be getting paid an additional £3500 along with several other managers and we have clearly been taken advantage off when it comes to being paid the incorrect level.

I would add on top of this Secondments can only last for 12 months which mine and many many others have gone long over this, without being made permanent or being returned to their previous role. Aparently HR is provided some duff information to enable them to carry on this without being noticed.

I have had an informal chat with HR and been advised to raise a grievance, clearly state everything down with the information etc and progress this matter this way.

Here is where I am looking for some help. Has anyone else been in this position or can offer any advice. I have never raised a grievance before so not really sure the in's and outs.

I am also aware that I assume when I raise this matter my cards will be marked so to speak as is the way in our office.

Any useful advise I would appreciate.

Thanks

You should consult your secondment policy as some employers may stipulate the secondment is remunerated at the substantive post salary.
