If you are travelling as a foot passenger then you can book the ferry as a train journey (through East Train, Trainline etc) and then you can use Railcards and other train discounts.

Red Funnel sometimes do 20% off but you often need the physical voucher. They also do a scheme where you pay £1000 up front and then get 20% off for all your bookings.

DFDS emailed me with night sailing cheapies for Dover to Dunkerque and Calais. This is my preferred time anyway.

Red Funnel wasn't an option with our plans, but I know they are usually perhaps 10% cheaper anyway!
