In Firefox, if you drag the link to a new tab it doesn't send the referrer information to the site. You can also install an app called refcontrol that removes the referrer information.

More info about your privacy/information on Firefox here (it will be similar for other browsers too):

If I want to enter one of the comps from MSE's list, I right click on the link and select ' open link in new tab' . This then opens the comp in a new tab.

Does this then mean that the referrer information is not sent and the comp site cannot tell I've come via MSE

Thanks for all your replies - I just felt if some comp sites were ignoring MSE entries it was worth knowing.

I'm not sure but I think doing it that way still shares referrer info? Someone more technically knowledgeable may be able to confirm

Found on Chrome, if you right click on a link you can open in an incognito window.

And at the top left of the browser there's a face in sunglasses and big hat :)

I just don't understand the logic of companies here - if there's a prize to give away, does it really matter where the entrant came from?! Grr!
