Where to start!

I am in a LOT of debt, most of it several years old from when I was still married. It's only now that I'm in a position to start clearing these debts and getting my credit history repaired.

No idea where to start though, I got a copy of my credit report and that gave me a lot them but there is loads not even listed on there. I can't remember most of my debts and none of them write to me anymore so how do I find them, or even know if they are still current?

No I'm not paying anything, these debts are all 5-7 years old and no they are not chasing me. I know the exist but I can't remember them all so checked my credit report but they are not all on there.

  • When I started paying my debits back over half of them I had no idea about. I got all 3 copied of my credit files. Sent letters to those and just waited for letters to come from the ones I had forgot about. When they did I just started making small payments and added them to the list.

I was only in about £1,700 of debt tho and all my debts where under £200 each. If yours are more than that i would not take my advise and you should phone Stepchange.

If it has been 5-7 years then probably quite a few were defaulted and after 6 years from the default date will not appear on your credit file.

A lot of them will likely be STATUTE BARRED and some are maybe months away from being so!
