I think that you can think about this a bit too much to be healthy!
  • I've been thinking about it pretty much every day for the past 4 years.

I'll finally be mortgage free in just over 4 months (or 136 days to be exact!!).

Perseverance - that's the key! Keep thinking about it and you'll get there very soon. Even shaving off an extra month or two every so often will put you on a real high.

    Good Luck.
    Mortgage Feb 2001 - £129,000

    ISA Profit since Jan 1st 2015 - 98.2% (updated 1 Dec 2020)

I think about it all the time - i do daily clicks to earn a little extra which goes towards my mortgage free goal, so i think about it then, and im always popping onto this board to see how everyone is doing!!!
Now ive found that my mortgage provider is doing an online service, im looking at my balance daily too (im trying to work out how much my daily interest is, but ive made a couple of overpayments recently, so im waiting to see what happens once they are both paid in, and how my balance changes after that)
Goodness, how sad does that make me sound!!! Never mind, it still focusses me on my MFW goal!

    hi :hello:
I think about it about 4 times aday yet feel quite far away from being able to be MF - must put into place other things like:
    1 being debt free
2 having a F*ck you account ie 3-6months salary saved
3 long term savings sorted first

Then I feel I can focus on getting mortgage free
:j Where there is a will there is a way - there is a way and I will find it :j

I think about it every single day. I got to within £18000 of it and then the wife wanted a conservatory so it's up to £37k. It really REALLY upset me doing that and there were some heated discussions about it but it was either do that or move house, as we needed more living space, which would have been a £70k mortgage. As it was, I managed to get a mortgage I can afford over 10 years which was only 2 years more than the £18k one had left to run.

I just keep banging as much as I can in my ISA whilst I can afford to and will pay off a lump sum every year.

I'll get there, it's just annoying that I could've been mortgage free by 40 at a push.

I hope she is getting her use out of it!

I only hope it keeps her happy otherwise you'll be moving before the year end!

PS: I take it she won the heated discussions then!

Sorry shouldn't laugh but it rings so many rings.

    Good look ;)
    Regards,
    Dave

If only I had a pound for every time I used the thanks button :D

I was in a similar-ish situation where I was looking forward to being under the 100k mark and was talked into getting an extension and new kitchen fitted that added an extra 50k onto our mortgage. I don't mind this too much to be honest because apart from giving us a huge amount of extra living space, it also added more to the value of the house than it cost to do.

Same here - it's put around £25k on the house. It's getting well hammered as it's ended up being more of a playroom for the kids. What brought it home about how much it was needed was when a friend visited with his missus and 4 kids in tow. Normally we'd all be crammed in the living room. What happened was their four and our two kids went off and played in the conservatory whilst we sat and talked without having to scream over the noise.

I've conceded that it was a good idea. :(
